Bread is something I eat nearly every day in one form or another. Nothing is quite so satisfying but especially home made bread. I have made many different types of bread, but this is my basic loaf that I make a couple times a week. It slices up real nicely with an electric knife. With this basic bread recipe you can add many different flavors when you are in the mood for something a little different, but I prefer it very basic and simple.
Dry Ingredients:
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
Wet Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons Active Dry Yeast
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1 cup hot tap water
Mix your wet ingredients first and set aside for 5 minutes while the yeast activates. In a large bowl, add your dry ingredients and mix well. Add the wet ingredients just a little at a time until you get the right dough consistency, you will learn over time exactly what it should look and feel like, but it should be easy to handle without being too sticky. Add a bit more flour or water as you go. Knead with your hands for just a few minutes. Then place in a prepared loaf pan. Put your loaf in a warm place for about 1-2 hours to rise. Preheat oven to 375 degrees (f) and bake for approx 30 min or until golden brown on top. Let cool completely before slicing.
